Genevilla to Laguardia

Writer's picture: St. Ignatius of Loyola ParishSt. Ignatius of Loyola Parish

Last evening, we traveled into Vitoria-Gasteiz, the capital of the Basque, region to attend mass in the cathedral. Vitoria recently won the Global Green City Award granted by the United Nations in recognition of the enormous effort made to create an environmentally committed city. It is an amazing place to see! As we walk through the Basque region, there are windmills everywhere. The commitment to wind and solar power is encouraging.

We awoke to a considerable temperature drop, which was consoling, as we had a hard mountain climb today. Ignatius had to cross the mountain range to enter into the Rioja valley. We followed the Ignatian Camino through several quiet mountain villages along the ridge. Then, finally, we descended into the beautiful Rioja valley!
