Music Ministry

Liturgy at St. Ignatius is enriched by our vibrant, wide-reaching Music Ministry. Involving nearly 100 professional and volunteer vocalists, instrumentalists, and conductors, we strive for excellence as we give praise with our hearts, minds, and voices to the greater glory of God.

To musicians of all backgrounds, ages, and ability levels - whether you are a parishioner, a Boston College or STM student, whether you are new to the parish or have been around for years - we need you! Please consider joining our ministry. We offer a wide range of musical styles and levels of time commitment. Our Director of Music, Allyn McCourt, received his Masters from the New England Conservatory of Music.

For more information, contact Allyn McCourt, or speak to him after Mass.

The 10:30 a.m. Choir

The Adult Choir rehearses from September to June each Wednesday evening from 7-9pm in the Upper Church. Preparing an eclectic repertoire including Gregorian chant, traditional hymnody, contemporary choral selections, and gospel music, the choir sings at the 10:30 a.m. Sunday liturgy. Featuring both professional and volunteer musicians, the choir is conducted by Allyn McCourt.

If you are interested in singing with the choir, but nervous about your abilities, Tyler offers a series of workshops each fall in music reading, vocal technique, and sight singing.

The 5:30 p.m. Contemporary Music Ensemble

The Contemporary Music Ensemble sings weekly at the 5:30p Sunday liturgy. With an hour-long rehearsal before mass, their repertoire presents a full breadth of contemporary Catholic church music and includes multiple genres including folk, world and gospel. Under the direction of Allyn McCourt, instrumentalists are also an integral part of the ensemble.

Children and Instrumentalists

Additionally, we have seasonal opportunities for instrumentalists and children. Past projects have included children’s choirs, chamber groups, and participation within our larger ensembles at Christmas, Holy Week, and other parish-wide celebrations.

To hear our Choir in action, listen to the following samples, recorded live during a recent liturgy at St. Ignatius Church:
